NBA Basketball
The game of basketball has grown massively in popularity since it was conceived in December, 1891 by Dr. James Naismith in Springfield, Massachusetts. Naismith invented basketball when he embarked on a plan to keep his students sufficiently active during the extreme cold of the New England winter. Naismith arrived at the conclusion that a peach basket could be utilized as a catchment device, and proceeded to fix one 10 feet up on the wall of an indoor gymnasium. In 1906 peach baskets were substituted by more familiar metal hoops, and soon today’s game of basketball was up and running. After several attempts at the formation of a basketball league, the National Basketball Association (NBA) was formed in the fall of 1949. Soon after, the first ever basketball tickets went on sale.
NBA basketball has enjoyed a distinguished history, rapidly rising to become one of America’s biggest and best-paid sports. NBA basketball players were among the first to secure sponsorship deals with sportswear companies, with the Nike Air Jordan representing the crowning glory of what came to be NBA basketball’s “global” phase.
The NBA Playoffs are the impatiently awaited climax to the NBA basketball season. NBA playoff tickets fetch huge prices as the make-or-break games loom, and many legendary clashes have transpired over the years. The NBA basketball playoffs begin in late April each year. 8 teams from each conference make the playoffs. This end-of-season joust, between the very best NBA teams in the world, draws a huge TV audience.
